Special Operations Forces, NATO, and Industry to Converge in Rome for 2026 Global SOF Symposium Europe

The 10th annual Global Special Operations Forces (GSOF) Symposium Europe will take place this year from 6-8 October 2026 in Rome, Italy. The event is co-sponsored by the Italian Ministry of Defense, with support from the Italian Special Operations community, and will bring together members of the global SOF community, industry, and other participants to exchange ideas, network, and present new and emerging capabilities, within the context of European security challenges and developments.
This year’s location places Italy at the forefront of the conversation. In recent years the event has been held in Greece (2025), Slovak Republic (2024), and Czech Republic (2023), and each year the host country prominently headlines and participates in the event. This year, attendees will be welcomed by opening remarks by the Commander of the Italian Joint Special Forces Operations Command and a welcome speech by the Senior Enlisted Leader. Throughout the event, leaders from Italian Joint Special Forces Operations and Italian military forces will speak, potentially including the Italian Minister of Defence and Deputy Chief of Defence Staff who have been invited pending confirmation. The prominence of Italian military leadership across the program reflects the symposium’s emphasis on security issues and developments in Europe.
The scope of the program will include leaders from across Europe and the United States. The Italian military officials, journalists, and industry leaders speaking at the event will be joined by officials from NATO SOFCOM and NATO DIANA, Romanian Special Operations Command, US Special Operations Command, Swedish Special Operations Command, and the US Naval Surface Warfare Center. The roster thus brings together a diverse line-up of perspectives from NATO, multinational SOF commands, industry, and academia.
Beyond the expert panels and speeches, the Symposium provides a venue for industry to connect directly with governments to propose solutions to existing needs and priorities. The symposium will facilitate direct engagement between governments and industry through the CNECT platform which connects U.S. and allied government acquisition representatives with industry innovators. Through this platform the Special Operations Commands of U.S. and allied governments, along with trusted agents, list their top priorities and needs, and industry representatives may apply for 1-on-1 meetings to take place during the event.
For many attendees, formal and informal networking is likely to be a prominent component of the symposium. Networking opportunities occur throughout the three days of the symposium in the form of networking breakfasts, lunches, coffee breaks, and receptions. Beyond the formally designated networking events, there are ample opportunities to make connections.
In addition to the talks by SOF and industry leaders, frequent networking events, and 1-on-1 meetings between government and industry, there will be an exhibition hall in which 75+ exhibitors are registered to be on site. The capability areas represented in the industry exhibit span the full range of special operations requirements from data/AI and unmanned systems; to weapons, mobility, aviation, and maritime platforms; C5/ISTAR and electronic warfare; defensive fields like Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and Explosive (CBRNE) and Explosive Ordnance Disposal/Counter-Improvised Explosive Devices; and individual soldier-level equipment, survival gear, and visual augmentation.
As in past years, what distinguishes the GSOF Symposium Europe is the participation it brings together from multinational Special Operations Forces Commands alongside industry innovators and others. For those who are unable to make it this year, the GSOF Symposium Europe is scheduled to take place again next year in October 2027 in Stockholm, Sweden.
