COL (R) Paul Hutton III is interviewed by West Point’s Center for Oral History. His career spanned attending West Point, the Cold War in Europe, tours in Vietnam, and time in the Pentagon. He was a battalion commander of 1st Battalion, 10th Special Forces Group at Bad Tolz, Germany.

His perspective on Special Forces in Vietnam is illuminating and informative. He spent a tour with Special Forces in Vietnam as well as with the Civil Operations and Revolutionary Development Support (CORDs) program. Topics include Khe Sanh, the Montenards, ‘Ruff Puffs’, counterinsurgency, and the transition to the ‘All Volunteer Army’.
